OUR MISSION

The San Luis Obispo County Arts Council, as the local partner of the California Arts Council, advances the visual, literary and performing arts through programs that promote public access to the arts, arts in educational settings, local arts planning and collaboration, and opportunities for artists and arts organizations.


Recognizing and celebrating the arts with the objective to raise visibility and awareness about the value of the arts sector, empower arts advocates to take action, and spur greater investments in the arts industry and workforce.

Pride: Who Am I?

In celebration of PRIDE, The Bunker, The GALA Pride and Diversity Center and The SLO County Arts Council invites people of all ages to submit art inspired by their Story of Self for the Pride: Who Am I? art show. The exhibit will take place in June at The Bunker SLO in celebration of Pride Month. Apply by April 30, 2024.

Clean California State Highway Beautification Project: Oceano Highway Mainstreet Community Space

The Oceano Highway Mainstreet Community Space is a small pedestrian plaza that will be constructed at the intersection of Highway 1 and Beach Street and 17th Street in Oceano. Construction of the community space will begin in Summer/Fall 2023. The project is seeking an artist/artist team to create an original three-dimensional public art piece emblematic of the new community gathering place in this historic small beach and agricultural town. This site-specific public art sculpture will be placed on a low landscape planter wall at an entry into the community space.

Work of Art: Business Skills For Artists

The Work of Art program is a professional development curriculum developed by Springboard for the Arts to teach business skills to artists of all disciplines. Artists can take the whole series, customized combinations, or individual workshops that best suit their needs. This series will be facilitated by a cohort of Central Coast artists as part of the Central Coast Creative Corps program. This series is free and open to the public.

Central Coast Creative Corps

Central Coast Creative Corps provides grant awards of $140,000 for 501(c)3 nonprofits, tribal governments, and government agencies to hire a local artist or culture bearer to develop art-driven wellness campaigns. Of the funding, $100,000 is to compensate an artist for work on the initiative; with $20,000 allocated for materials; and $20,000 to the organization for administration.

We are pleased to announce the grant recipients in SLO County are Lumina Alliance and R.A.C.E. Matters! These organizations have hired local artists to partner with on their projects.
