Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists

This Thursday, February 29th from 12 to 1:30 PM join a free, virtual workshop on Portfolio Kits. This is a workshop for artists and by artists. Your portfolio is the core of your promotional material and professional calling card. Focus on the essential elements: sharpening your artist statement, tailoring your artistic resume, and curating and formatting your work samples. Facilitated by Monica Galvan.

Monica Galvan grew up in Watsonville California. She comes from a biracial family with a Mexican father and a mother of French European descent. Living in low-income housing projects for the majority of her life, she learned about her Mexican culture and became aware of the racial inequities and discrimination faced by her Latinx neighbors. Her upbringing has kept her grounded. She honors her roots by sharing her passion for art with her community. In 2014 Monica transferred to UC Berkeley from Cabrillo College, receiving her Bachelor in art practice in the Spring of 2016. She received her Master of Fine Art from San Jose State in the spring of 2023. Monica currently teaches art lessons in alternative education high schools and community centers in Santa Cruz County. She has been a practicing teaching artist in Watsonville for the past 6 years. In 2019 Monica founded a nonprofit called Arte del Corazón, an organization geared at securing and providing opportunities for financial advancement, professional development, and community engagement for local artists and creatives of Watsonville, CA, and the surrounding counties.

This event is brought to you by the Central Coast Arts Coalition as part of the California Arts Council Creative Corps program.
