Arts, Culture, and Creativity Month

About ACCM

Arts, Culture, and Creativity Month (ACCM) serves as a month-long spotlight on the arts in April, recognizing and celebrating the arts with the objective to raise visibility and awareness about the value of the arts sector, empower arts advocates to take action, and spur greater investments in the arts industry and workforce. ACCM was established in 2019 after a successful campaign by Californians for the Arts, passed by a concurrent resolution in the California Senate.

This year’s thematic focus is "Health, Healing, Hope," exploring the vital intersection of arts with community wellness and recovery while also emphasizing that Art Work is Real Work – building on Californians for the Arts’ successful advocacy for artists as essential workers in our communities. “Art Work is Real Work.” Artists play an essential role in our daily lives with critical contributions across a variety of impact areas including health, education, housing, climate, youth development, and the economy. Help us amplify the message that artists and creatives are essential to California's well-being and economic prosperity.

Ways To Get Involved

  • Share Your Arts Story

Share or reshare a local arts program, piece of public art, gallery space, performance, etc. that you engaged with recently and inspired you to appreciate the arts/creative workforce. Add the hashtag #ArtWorkIsRealWork and tag our Instagram account linked at the button.

  • Write an Op-Ed

Op-eds are a great tool for arts advocates. They help communicate the value of the arts and arts advocacy to local community members who may not otherwise think about the arts in that way. Author your own piece or use the template provided at the button below.

  • Engage with Local & State Legislators

Send a letter to city officials, county supervisors, and state legislators and urge them to protect funding for the arts. Click the button to find your legislators and access a template to help you write your letter.

Support our local creative community and invest in arts programming, funding, and advocacy across SLO County.
