Indigo Dye Workshop

  • Fieldwork Community Art Space 5880 Entrada Avenue Atascadero, CA, 93422 United States (map)

Dive into the world of indigo and explore traditional resist techniques with Felise Gutierrez. Revered for its striking blue hue, indigo carries a rich global history, with traditions developed across Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Europe.

Each month, we’ll experiment with a different resist technique while learning the history and chemistry of indigo, and how to prepare and maintain a living indigo vat.

Bring 2–3 items made of 100% natural fibers (cotton, linen, rayon, hemp, wool, or silk) to dye. This is a chance to upcycle well-loved garments or thrifted finds while creatively and joyfully “resisting” a culture of consumption.
