The Morro Bay Art Center is proud to present Jason Mayr on October 14th from 3 to 5 PM. This event is free and open to the public.
Though Jason grew up in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas, his heart’s home was in ancient Eastern philosophies. In his twenties, his philosophical interest reached an apex while living in monasteries and communes, diving deeply into the philosophy he had poured over in his younger life. Profound meditations and auspicious interactions with the resident nuns and monks laid the groundwork from which his artistic explorations would later flourish. There, his deep love for beauty as an expression of ultimate truth was birthed. His early artistic influences included impressionistic paintings. He was awed by how mood could be created by the juxtaposition of paint. Shortly after leaving the monasteries, Jason moved to Los Angeles, California, where he began to study at the Art Center College of Design. He then studied under Joseph Mendez for six years. Now, after almost two decades of painting in an impressionistic style, Jason pivoted to a chiaroscuro (light/shadow) style.
Currently Jason resides in San Luis Obispo, California, with his wife Cindy, their daughter Isabella, and their dog Halo. He divides his time between painting and teaching painting. Jason continues to explore beauty as truth and is again and again inspired by the willingness of oil paint to lend itself to this profound endeavor. For 4 years straight (2003-2006) Jason was voted one of the Best Local Artists, quickly establishing his reputation in San Luis Obispo County.
Jason Mayr will do a live oil painting demonstration and discuss his craft at Art Center Morro Bay on the second Monday of October.
